Just in case you haven’t heard yet, you need to reprogram the sprinkler systems. The odd-even days of sprinkling yards and flowers in Atlanta and Sandy Springs are a thing of the past for now.
As of May 24, you can only water your lawns and flower beds on Saturdays or Sundays from midnight to 10 a.m. Until further notice, residents in Atlanta and Sandy Springs are not allowed to turn on their hoses from Monday through Friday.
However, there is an exception. If you have just had landscaping installed, you may water that for 30 days to get it established. You also may water personal food gardens.
This watering ban is not to be taken lightly. The Atlanta City Council is considering an ordinance to impose fines for homeowners for off-scheduled watering. The fines would be $250 for the second violation, $500 for the third violation and $1,000 for subsequent violations. The city also could ultimately shut off water service to habitual violators.
