Her first real haircut in 40 years prompted Buckhead resident Carol Green to throw a hair-cutting party last month to benefit Locks of Love, a non-profit organization that uses donated hair and funds to create hair prosthesis for children with total hair loss.

The party, co-sponsored by Stites & Harbison, the law firm where Green is a recruiting coordinator, and hosted by Green and partner, attorney Bob Lipman, drew almost 100 people to their Buckhead home to see the cutting of Green’s trademark hair that has hung below her knees for years.

Volunteers Steve Hightower and the crew of his Hair Artists Studio wielded scissors and makeup brushes as they cut ponytails, styled hair and gave makeovers to the donors, each of whom sacrificed at least 10 inches of hair.

Green received the final haircut of the evening, donating a 26-inch ponytail.

Donations, raffles and an auction for a Day of Luxury at Hightower’s Buckhead salon helped Green raise over $2500 for Locks of Love – an amount Green intends to increase with matching grants. Green, her colleagues, sister, daughter and others donated 12 ponytails for the event.
