The North Buckhead Civic Association had a packed house and a jam-packed agenda for its annual meeting March 27 at the St. James United Methodist Church on Peachtree-Dunwoody Road.

A social hour with lots of food available and information tables for browsing greeted by the 100-plus members and guests who attended.

The meeting began with President Gordon Certain and Nancy Jones, chair of the Environmental Committee, presenting Atlanta Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Commissioner Diane Harnell Cohen with a plaque of appreciation for helping the association gain green space and park land through the city.

Cohen then spoke to the group about specific programs for North Buckhead as well as other efforts by her department to improve parks in Buckhead.

Cohen was followed on the program by Atlanta Police Zone 2 Commander Major James Sellers, Georgia state Rep. Edward Lindsey, District 2 City Councilman Howard Shook and finally Atlanta Board of Education member Katy Pattillo.

The meeting, which began with the social hour at 6 p.m., lasted until just before 10 p.m. with a spirited discussion at the end about the proposed Sarah Smith Primary center on Wieuca Road.
