Joe Basista officially takes over as Atlanta’s new commissioner of Public Works, following his confirmation by city council April 21.

Prior to his appointment as public works commissioner, he was deputy commissioner in the city of Atlanta’s Department of Watershed Management – responsible for strategic planning and performance management reporting for the department and the sewer system inspection and rehabilitation program with annual capital funding of $80 million.

Basista has more than 30 years of experience in planning, design, construction and program management for municipal public works agencies the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority and the wastewater capital program for Houston, Texas.

In Atlanta, Basista served as program manager for Clean Water Atlanta from 2001- 2004, providing strategic planning and management to the city’s $3.2 billion wastewater capital program.
