The Doris and Alex Weber Jewish Community High School named its premier classroom and office building the Helen and Joseph Penzell Building. The school offered the naming opportunity to Felicia and Joe Weber, the school’s original naming benefactors, to recognize their recent $6 million gift to The Weber School’s Weaving a Legacy Capital Campaign.
The Webers chose the name to honor and to memorialize Felicia Weber’s late parents.
Covering some 80,000 square feet and three stories, the Penzell Building is The Weber School’s primary learning facility, housing 22 classrooms, five science labs, two computer labs, media and library facilities, art galleries, faculty and administrative offices, conference rooms and cafeteria.
The Weber School’s Board of Trustees officially announced the naming of the building during a ceremony and donor recognition reception on Nov. 17, when Capital Campaign donors and friends gathered to celebrate the school’s first building naming and the recent successful completion of the Campaign’s Weber Challenge, in which over $11 million – an all-time capital fundraising record for the School – was raised in a year.
The Weber School was established in 1997 as a private Jewish community high school. Originally named the New Atlanta Jewish Community High School, it was renamed in 2003 in honor of Joe Weber’s late parents, Doris and Alex Weber.
