Atlanta’s bid for $280 million in federal funding for a streetcar line along Peachtree Street failed to make a list of transit projects recently announced by the Obama administration. In fact, none of the 51 project winners are in Georgia.

Former Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin spearheaded the city’s application last year for the proposed streetcar line from a $1.5 billion pool of grant money provided through the federal economic stimulus program. Her successor, Mayor Kasim Reed, traveled to Washington since taking office to push for the funds.

The city applied for the money in partnership with MARTA, Central Atlanta Progress and the Midtown Alliance.
