Don’t believe a bank teller doesn’t remember a customer.
A bank robber police had dubbed the “Hobo Bandit” pushed his luck too far April 6 when police say he decided to rob a fourth Buckhead bank in six months.
According to Atlanta Police Zone 2 Commander Maj. Robert Browning, a few bank tellers were having lunch outdoors at a restaurant and recognized a man walking by on the sidewalk as the person who had robbed their bank just months before.
The tellers followed the man down the sidewalk and called police to report that they were following the suspected bank robber. They reported that the man entered the Wachovia Bank in the 3200 block of Peachtree Road and then came back out of the bank.
Browning was sitting in his car, waiting on the traffic light at the intersection, when he spotted a man running across Peachtree Road just after the Wachovia Bank had been robbed. Browning arrested Ray Gilbert, 60, without incident, according to police.
Gilbert was charged with robbing the Wachovia branch. Police say he also robbed a Chase Bank branch at 3330 Piedmont Road in February, the Fifth Third Bank at 3344 Peachtree Road on Dec. 21, and the BB&T Bank at 3379 Peachtree Road on Nov. 30.
