Sandy Springs’ newest recreation area, Morgan Falls Overlook Park, will open to the public with an event July 28, Dist. 2 Councilwoman Dianne Fries said.

From 4 to 7 p.m., residents are invited for food and fun. Come have a hot dog and explore the city’s new riverside attraction.

Overlook Park is located at the end of Morgan Falls Road off Roswell Road near City Hall. The park features a boat dock, pavilion, playground and the historic, stacked-stone chimney that residents last year fought to preserve.

The city still is figuring out how to improve Morgan Falls Road, which is narrow and damaged from park construction. The 2011 budget that took effect July 1 allocated $1.5 million for the project.

“We’re still looking at options,” Fries said. Road repairs won’t happen before the park opens in July, she said.
