Veteran state Sen. Vincent Fort withstood a challenge from within his own party to win the Democratic nomination for the Senate seat representing District 39, which includes a portion of Buckhead.
Fort collected nearly 68 percent of the vote to defeat challenger Graham Balch, according to the Georgia Secretary of State’s elections website.

In House District 55, incumbent Rep. Rashad Taylor received about 56 percent of the vote to defeat challenger “Able” Mable Thomas in the July 20 Democratic primary.
Neither Fort nor Taylor faces a Republican challenger in November, according to the website.
