Even though rainclouds lingered in the sky, the July 28 grand opening of Morgan Falls Overlook Park went off without a hitch.

Dozens of city officials, community supporters, residents and kids came out to the city’s new riverside park, which sits on 27 acres at the end of Morgan Falls Road.

Children swarmed the spider web-like jungle gym in the large playground area and played carnival games on the lawn. Some Sandy Springers took pictures by the circa-1840s chimney. Others enjoyed a seat on one of the 20 swings overlooking Bull Sluice Lake.

“This is really fantastic,” said Sandy Springs Education Force board member David Couchman, who came to the grand opening with wife and fellow board member Melanie. “I’m looking forward to bringing my grandkids down here.”

Residents Walter and Cecilia Waddey, who have lived in Sandy Springs for more than 30 years, said Overlook Park is easily the city’s best park.

“I think it’s outstanding,” Walter Waddey said. “I love river views.”
