The Sandy Springs City Council will hold its regular retreat on March 27,  from 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The meeting was to be held at the Heritage Bluestone Building at 6110 Bluestone Road. Before the event gets started, there was to be a ribbon-cutting at 9 a.m. to acknowledge the recent $1.5 million renovation of the lower level of Heritage Hall.

One of the big topics of the retreat will be Sandy Springs downtown redevelopment. Representatives of Boston-based Goody Clancy are expected to attend. The City Council recently awarded a $350,000 contract to the firm to draw up the downtown master plan and update its Livable Centers Initiative study.

While the city’s current plan, favored by Mayor Eva Galambos, is to build a City Hall and downtown around property it owns at 235 Johnson Ferry Road there is a growing chorus of voices of people who say the property should be turned into a park.
