Two events commemorating World War II are planned in Reporter Newspaper communities in May.
Veterans of the “Mighty Eighth” U.S. Air Force plan to gather May 19 at DeKalb-Peachtree Airport. The event, a fundraiser for the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum in Savannah, is chaired by Hap Chandler of Sandy Springs, who flew 35 missions in B-24 bombers and is a founding member of the museum.
The event, called the “Blue Jeans and Bomber Jacket BBQ,” will be held in the Epps Aviation hangar at PDK. Tickets are $100.
In Sandy Springs, the American Association of Invalids and Veterans of World War II from the former USSR plans to commemorate the Allied victory in World War II with a celebration May 6 that is to include music, arts and crafts for children and displays. The event, at MedSide Health Care, 1120 Hope Road, is open to the public. Admission is free.
