All lanes have reopened on Georgia 400 northbound after a severe accident occurred at the Northridge Road exit early Wednesday morning, May 23, leaving one driver in critical condition.

Sandy Springs police say the accident occurred at 2 a.m. when the driver of a Dodge Intrepid entered the top of the northbound Northridge exit ramp driving in the wrong direction. He continued down the ramp and traveled south on the northbound side of GA 400, where he struck a street sweeper truck.

The Sandy Springs Police Department closed all northbound lanes as the driver of the Intrepid was airlifted to Grady Hospital for the treatment of critical injuries, including severe burns from the fire caused by the impact. The occupants of the street sweeper were not injured. All affected lanes have been reopened.
