Sam Massell, founding president of the Buckhead Coalition and former Atlanta mayor, will receive the Council for Quality Growth’s 23rd annual Four Pillar Award on Oct. 4.
The award celebrates “quality, responsibility, vision and integrity,” its creators say. Recent honorees include Buckhead businessman Charlie Loudermilk, Home Depot founder and Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank, former Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin, developer Tom Cousins, U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson and developer John Wieland.
Massell has been president of the coalition, a nonprofit, for 25 years.
“Mayor Massell’s life has been about public service and improving the quality of life in our region” Council President and CEO Michael E. Paris said in a press release. “We can thank him for the creation of MARTA and for polishing Buckhead to make it what it is today.”
