Drivers on Roswell Road will soon have an easier time crossing the bridge over I-285.

Sandy Springs officials on Oct. 30 will cut the ribbon on the project to widen the bridge from five lanes to six. In addition to the widening the road, there will now be dedicated turn lanes for the I-285 entrance ramps in both directions along Roswell.

The $3.6 million project has been in the works for years. The Georgia Department of Transportation held the final field review in 2010. Money from the federal government covered the bulk of the cost, providing $2 million for the project.

The project is one day ahead of schedule, city spokeswoman Sharon Kraun said. The original completion date was Oct. 31.
