Violinist Itzhak Perlman. (Special)

City Springs is bringing world-renowned violinist Itzhak Perlman to perform in February, where he will also receive an award from the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival.

“Undeniably the reigning virtuoso of the violin, Itzhak Perlman enjoys superstar status rarely afforded a classical musician,” a press release said.

Securing Perlman’s Feb. 16 performance was a team effort, assisted by sponsorships from the Sandy Springs Society; AJFF; Sandy Springs Development Authority,  an independent agency that supports city economic development; RBM of Atlanta, a Mercedes-Benz dealer; Northside Hospital; and BB&T Bank, according to the release.

The contributions are used to keep ticket prices low, the release said.

“To bring in talent the caliber of Itzhak Perlman and keep ticket prices affordable requires community support, and it is gratifying to see both community and business come together to make this performance available,” said Sandy Springs Mayor Rusty Paul in the release.

As part of the event, the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival will present Perlman with the AJFF Icon Award for his work with film scores. Most known for “Schindler’s List,” he has also contributed to the music of Disney’s “Fantasia 2000,” “Memoirs of a Geisha” and “Hero,” the release said.

Perlman will be accompanied by pianist Rohan De Silva. Tickets go on sale Jan. 4 at noon and will range from $65 to $100. Visit citysprings.com for more information.
