The national “Kids to Parks Day” returns to an in-person event in Sandy Springs on Saturday, May 21, to encourage residents to use local parks and recreation sites for more active, healthy lifestyles.
The free, national event is in its 12th year and has the motto “Active Kids are Healthy Kids.”
Sandy Springs’ celebration will be held at Hammond Park at 705 Hammond Drive from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Kids can enjoy inflatables, water slides, popcorn, a balloon artist, temporary tattoos, DJ, music, prizes, and more.
“I couldn’t be more excited for the in-person return of Kids to Parks Day in Sandy Springs,” Mayor Rusty Paul said in a news release. “Sandy Springs parks are known throughout the region and offer a wide range of activities for all to enjoy. Being active and outdoors is a great foundation to living a healthy lifestyle.”
Sandy Springs has 13 parks for residents, including its newest park, Northwood Park, at 120 Northwood Drive. The park features a playground, shade areas with picnic tables, a grass play area, and swings under an arbor.
This “pocket park” is part of a new multi-use development that contains the headquarters of three nonprofit organizations. The park was donated to the city by Taylor/Theus Holdings.
