Reimagine the Legacy: Honoring Congressman John Lewis is an annual event taking place on July 30th that encourages reflection, learning, celebration, and action, all centered around the life and legacy of Congressman John Lewis. All program activities are held at significant sites in the Downtown Atlanta community and are free and open to the public.
Central Atlanta Progress invites the Atlanta community to gather at 10:00 a.m. at the John Lewis HERO mural in Sweet Auburn for a rededication ceremony to celebrate the life of Congressman Lewis and reflect on how we can positively impact future generations.
At 11:00 a.m., the ceremony will end with the ringing of bells for 80 seconds, representing the Congressman’s 80 years of life on the day he was laid to rest and initiating a community-wide moment of reflection.
Participating moment of reflection partners include the Ebenezer Baptist Church Christine King Farris Handbell Choir, Atlanta First United Methodist Church and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
If your place of worship would like to participate in the ringing of the bells, please contact marketing@atlantadowntown.com
Following the ceremony and moment of reflection, the public is invited to participate in a variety of community activities (details to be announced).
