Hawthorn Design & Construction completed this kitchen renovation to a home in North Atlanta. The homeowners, who purchased the home in the early 1980s, wanted to keep the footprint of the kitchen, but open it up to the dining room and install more windows for light. Hawthorn owner Steve Prittie said creating an entryway to the dining room and using custom, double-sided china cabinets that face both spaces allowed for natural light to flow easily. Granite countertops, a downdraft cooktop on the island, and stainless steel appliances — including a double oven — completed the new look. Prittie said another unique feature was the homeowners decision to use a cork floor, “a forgiving surface and feels great underfoot.” The project cost approximately $125,000.
