In a new move towards environmental friendliness, Atlanta-based company Games for Competitors has announced a new eco-friendly edition of their board game Tri-Cross, which challenges players to think strategically, anticipate moves and problem solve in unique ways.
This new eco-friendly edition of the board game was re-invented by Georgia Tech graduates Brian Howell and Jeff Burns, who originally created the game with his father in 1987.
This new version of Tri-Cross remains true to the signature board style and scratch proof game pieces, yet it does so in an environmentally friendly way by trading in the large cardboard box for an organic cotton drawstring bag and cloth playing board, which is printed with non-toxic ink.
In addition to “going green” in regard to the game’s reinvention, 10 percent of each sale will benefit the Captain Planet Foundation, which funds hands-on environmental projects for children and youth.
Burns said he hopes to set a new standard for eco-friendliness in gaming. “We have an opportunity to go to classrooms across Georgia and in Atlanta, and team up with teachers and students and show them that it is possible to be eco friendly,” he said.
Since making its debut at the 2008 New York Toy Fair, Tri-Cross has gained nationwide attention and won several awards including Creative Child Magazine’s 2008 Game of the Year, Dr. Toy’s 100 Best Products of 2009 and receiving the National Parenting Center’s Seal of Approval. Burns said Tri-Cross has been hailed by many as “the new chess” and has been embraced and endorsed by teachers across Georgia.
