The Sandy Springs City Council has placed a 90-day moratorium on accepting permit applications and petitions from developments larger than 30,000 square feet, responding to rumors abut a Walmart store near the city’s proposed downtown area.
Walmart has not confirmed that it wants to locate a store in Sandy Springs. City spokeswoman Sharon Kraun said the Walmart rumors brought “inconsistencies” to light between the city’s zoning ordinances and its comprehensive plan. Kraun said, “There is no Walmart.”
“There’s always rumors about different things,” Kraun said. “It was one that got a lot of steam. The council heard from a lot of residents.”
The moratorium means the city won’t accept permits or applications for any development exceeding 30,000 square feet.
