After Brookhaven residents voted to become a city on July 31, the next step was for Gov. Nathan Deal to appoint a five-member commission to help the city through the transition to a functioning government.
As of Aug. 16, 2012 there is no word on when the governor will announce the commission or who its members will be. The commission will be responsible for identifying candidates for city staff jobs. Commission members can’t run for Brookhaven City Council or mayor.
The Brookhaven Reporter reached out to Deal’s office and talked to an employee who did not wish to be quoted. The employee said Deal has until Sept. 1 to name all of the commission members and said the governor’s office is currently reviewing resumes.
The employee said anyone who is interested in serving on the commission can send resumes to: Thomas Worthy, Deputy Executive Counsel, 201 State Capitol, Atlanta, Ga. 30334.
