About 75 new citizens will take their oaths of citizenship during a special ceremony at the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area in Sandy Springs on Sept. 28.

The ceremony, the first of its kind at the national recreation area, is being held on National Public Lands Day. The $3 entry fee charged visitors to the recreation area will be waived that day to celebrate public lands.

The naturalization event begins at 9 a.m. at Hewlett Field at the Island Ford unit of the recreation area, located at 1978 Island Ford Parkway, the National Park Service said in a press release. The event is being conducted with the U.S. Citizen and Immigration Service, the release said.

“This will be a first for Chattahoochee River so we’re honored to welcome new citizens into the nation in our park,” said Scott Pfeninger, acting superintendent of the recreation area.
