The Decatur Police is investigating a rash of car break-ins around the city that occurred over the last two days. Nine cars were broken into on Oct. 30 and 31, according to a report from the department.
On Oct. 30, Decatur Police received reports of four vehicles entered during late afternoon-early evening hours while victims were visiting a park, gymnastics studio, yoga studio and recreation center. The incidents occurred in the 100 block of Nelson Ferry Road, 400 block of W. Ponce de Leon, 400 block of East Lake Drive and 2600 block of Talley Street. All four vehicles were entered by having a window broken out. Purses, wallets, credit cards, phones and a laptop were stolen.
On Oct. 31, the department received reports of five vehicles entered the previous night in the Melrose Avenue/Drexel Avenue/Emerson Avenue area. All of the vehicles were unsecured. Loose change, a GPS unit and a radar detector were taken. Four of the five vehicles entered were parked in driveways and the fifth vehicle was parked on the street.
