Sandy Springs Police Blotter – dated through March 21

The following incidents and arrests are some but not all of the reports filed with SSPD over the listed period, dated through March 21.

The following information was provided by the Sandy Springs Police Department from its records and is presumed to be accurate.

Burglary

Cedar Run 30350 – On March 17, someone made an anonymous call to the leasing office of Azalea Park Apartments that a burglary was in progress in one of the apartments. The office called the police who responded, and found forced entry to the apartment.  It is not known if there is anything missing.

5600 block of Roswell Road 30342 – On March 19, a 36-year-old man reported someone entered his apartment between 5 a.m. and 3 p.m. and took several items including a PS3, jewelry and a laptop. The burglar came in through an unsecured sliding glass door.

Theft

1000 block of Brentwood Way 30350 – On March 15, a man reported that someone stole his 2005 Chevy Astro van sometime during the night.

6300 block of Mountain Brook Way 30328 – On March 15, a backpack leaf blower was stolen from a storage shed in the victim’s backyard. A padlock was found on the ground. No forced entry was used to gain access.

1000 block of Johnson Ferry Road 30342 – On March 15, a 58-year-old woman reported that someone stole her wedding band and $30 cash from an overnight bag while she was on the 23rd-floor family room area of a hospital.

200 block of Forest Hills Drive 30342 – On March 16, a man reported someone stole a dishwasher, still in the box, from his carport. A large dolly was also taken.

8600 block of Roswell Road 30350 – On March 17, an employee at a sports bar said a man left without paying an $11 tab.

6000 block of Roswell Road 30328 – On March 17, around 1 a.m., a woman reported that she was at s nightclub and placed her purse on the bar for only a few seconds, but during that time, someone took it. The purse, cash and other contents, including an iPhone, was not found and presumed stolen.

8200 block of Roswell Road 30350 – On March 17, a restaurant owner said two young men, possibly teenagers, came in and stole the tip jar, which was next to the register. About $5 was in the jar.

4700 block of Brinkley Lane 30342 – On March 17, a man reported a pressure washer was taken from his carport. Another  pressure washer was stolen on March 18 from the 300 block of Forest Hills.

1100 block of Mount Vernon Highway 30328 – On March 18, a 34-year-old woman told officers she was at a restaurant around 3 p.m. She left, got in her car, and later realized her wallet had been taken from her purse.

5600 block of Roswell Road 30342 – On March 18, a man reported a bike stolen.

Old Burdette Lane 30328 – On March 19, a resident reported that someone stole her mail sometime on March 18 or 19. A $40 bottle of lotion was missing from a box.

500 block of Northridge Road 30350 – On March 19, a 28-year-old woman said a Nikon digital camera was stolen following delivery by UPS. They tracked it to her home on Feb. 26 but it was apparently taken before she arrived home.

1000 block of Harbor Pointe Parkway 30350 – On March 19, a man reported that around 3 p.m. he was in the fitness area of the apartments. He accidentally left his wallet and cellphone there.  When he returned 45 minutes later, the items were gone.

600 block of Morgan Falls Road 30350 – On March 19, a man reported that someone took his iPad from his cubicle inside the World Pay office. The iPad was left overnight to charge.

5600 block of Peachtree Dunwoody Road 30342 – On March 19, a 50-year-old woman reported that just before 11 p.m., someone took her iPad she left on the table at a hospital while she went to the restroom.

600 block of West Powderhorn Road 30342 – On March 20, a Coleman Trail mini bike/electric pocket bike was reported stolen from a carport. The bike is red and has a Heards Ferry Elementary School magnet on it.

Assault

7200 block of Roswell Road 30328 – On March 15, cops received a call to an auto company and met with a man, his grandmother, and the manager of the store. The man said he had been working at the shop for a week and he was trying to collect his paycheck. The manager said he wanted to prosecute the man for hitting an employee, damaging a car, and stealing money.  The man said he got into a fight with his father, who also an is employee, while sitting inside a 2000 Lexus RX300, which the man was interested in buying. The fight started when the man told his father that the odometer did not match the CarFax report. Punches were thrown back and forth resulting in a broken rear-view mirror and cracked windshield. The manager said the man had agreed to buy the car and had taken it off the lot. The manager tracked the car via GPS, and drove over to Cobb County to retrieve it, which resulted in an incident where Cobb County PD was called.  This group of people didn’t want charges pressed, and the man was told to stay away from the shop. The manager was told to pay the employee his wages through the mail.

6000 block of Roswell Road 30328 – On March 15, a woman said her husband held her down and choked her.

8000 block of The Fifth Green 30350 – On March 15, a man reported that his new ex-wife, still living at home, attacked him with a glass mug after she was angry over her phone being turned off.

Arrests

6200 block of Peachtree Dunwoody Road 30328 – On March 15, just before 2 a.m., a patrol officer spotted a car backed into a parking space in a hotel parking lot. The car’s engine was running. A man and woman were in the car, reclined in the seats. The officer smelled marijuana coming from the car and so he questioned the pair. They said they had smoked all that they had on them, although some was left visible in the ashtray. While the officer was looking in the car, he found, in the woman’s purse, containers filled with urine. She said she was providing urine for her friend who was on probation. The pair was issued a citation for the weed, but the fate of the urine was not mentioned in the report.

Cops arrested a man after receiving a call to Roswell Road and Lake Placid in regard to a cab driver who was attacked. The cabbie told officers a man flagged him down at a restaurant in the 5300 block of Roswell Road, and wanted to be taken north on Roswell Road, but gave no destination. The man, once inside the cab, reached through and began choking the cabbie, and, according to the cabbie, tried to break his neck. The man fled in the direction of The Prado. The officers checked Taco Mac and were told by the hostess the man was inside and screaming. They found the man who was screaming something about “Sarah,” and shoving his cellphone into customer’s faces. The suspect resisted the arrest but was quickly subdued. The defendant was checked out for a facial laceration by EMS and taken to a hospital, where he was seen, treated, and released to the officers who then took him to Fulton Jail.

Other Things

I-285/Roswell Road 30328 – On March 16, a 36-year-old woman was killed just after 10 p.m. when she was struck by a truck on I-285 after she walked into its path. The investigation is still under way; however, no charges have been issued to the driver.

5600 block of Roswell Road 30342 – On March 18, cops were called to a domestic argument that began when a woman accused her live-in boyfriend of having sex with another woman. He denied it. No punches were thrown. The man agreed to leave.

Cops answered another domestic argument at a hotel on Hammond Drive, also on March 18 – A woman told officers that her husband becomes verbally abusive when he smokes marijuana. She said he shook her. She left. She told the officer that she will be focusing her energy on a divorce.

8700 block of Dunwoody Place – A man told cops he moved here from Brooklyn and was looking for an apartment. He said that in Brooklyn, when you want to know something, you go to the barber shop—so he did. He went to a shop and spoke to one of the barbers, asking asked for any referrals he could give. The barber told the man his brother could help. Later, the complainant met someone at the entrance to the apartments and went to the barber’s apartment. Inside, the complainant thanked the men for helping and asked if he could look around. He did so, and when he came back into the room, the barber was angry and produced a gun which surprised the complainant and the two other men in the room. He was told “Get the f— out!” He did. He went to the barber shop shortly after and again was told by the man to get out. He doesn’t know why the man turned on him, but he will not be returning to the shop.
