President Barack Obama gets blamed for just about everything these days, but you can definitely blame him for this evening’s traffic gridlock at the height of rush hour.
According to our media affiliate CBS46, Obama will visit the Centers for Disease Control at Emory University this afternoon, Sept. 16, where he will be briefed about the outbreak and discuss the U.S. response with officials. He is also expected to meet with the doctors, scientists and health care workers responding to the crisis. Three Americans have been treated for Ebola in Atlanta after evacuation from Africa.
CNN is reporting that Obama will announce new U.S. steps to combat the growing epidemic in West Africa.American military personnel in the region could increase by 3,000 with plans to construct treatment centers that could house up to 1,700 beds. Washington has committed more than $100 million to combat Ebola, according to the U.S. Agency for International Development. Obama plans to call on Congress to approve an additional $88 million as part of a bill to fund the federal government.
As for the traffic, Air Force One will land at Hartsfield-Jackson around 2 p.m. and there will be rolling roadblocks up the interstate and to the CDC campus. His departure around 5:30 p.m. will coincide with rush hour and this evening’s Braves game at Turner Field. Leave extra time for your commute or maybe leave work early or late to avoid some of the gridlock.
