
President Barack Obama is visiting Georgia Tech and attending a Democratic fundraiser in Atlanta today, so expect some rolling traffic gridlock as his motorcade moves through Downtown. Air Force One is expected to arrive at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport at 12:15 p.m. and Obama will speak on the Tech campus at 1:30 p.m. on how to make college more affordable and investing in educations. The President is also scheduled to make at the Hyatt Regency in Downtown for Democratic National Committee fundraiser at 4:30 p.m. before wheels up on Air Force Again just after 6 p.m. Adjust your commute accordingly.
The City of Atlanta is now offering a tax exemption for new and emerging technology business. The amendment to the Occupation Tax Ordinance provides an exemption for businesses from paying the City’s license fee for those classified as high technology, life sciences and intellectual property. The amendment was passed unanimously by the Atlanta City Council. “Entrepreneurs coming to Atlanta have told us that the best thing we can do to support them is to make it easy for them to conduct business in the City,” said Mayor Kasim Reed. “Fostering this type of environment now will pay dividends for us well into the future as we continue to position Atlanta as a destination for technology and innovation.”
The DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office has announced that it will seek the death penalty against Aeman Presley, a man accused of four murders, including one in Decatur. According to Decaturish, Presley is accused in the Dec. 6 murder of Smyrna hairdresser, Karen Pearce, and three homeless men: Dorian Jenkins, on Nov. 23, Tommy Mims, on Nov. 26, and Calvin Gholston, on Sept. 27.
