Protestors gathered for a fourth night of rallies and marches through the streets of Downtown and Midtown on Sunday night and into Monday morning in protest against police-involved shootings of black men in Louisiana and Minnesota.
There were no official reports of arrests, but social media photos and video showed several protestors being led away by police at various points.
The marches began at 7 p.m. on Sunday night at Centennial Olympic Park and Woodruff Park before attendees set off on a meandering path through Downtown’s streets. There was a heavy police presence with both Atlanta Police and Georgia State Patrol making sure protestors didn’t try to get onto the Downtown Connector.
Protestors frequently took over intersections, but were allowed to move freely by police. That is until they reached the State Capitol where protestors were blocked by a phalanx of law enforcement. There were tense moments between officers and demonstrators, before protest leaders turned the march back toward Peachtree. Protestors briefly held a sit-in on Peachtree at Underground Atlanta before continuing on to rally in Piedmont Park until 2 a.m.
