The first Buford Highway half-marathon is set for Sunday, Oct. 2, to benefit the Peachtree Creek Greenway.
Volunteers are still needed to help with the marathon along the “international corridor” that runs through Brookhaven, Chamblee and Doraville.
The BuHi International Half-Marathon begins at 7 a.m. with headquarters at Plaza Fiesta, 4166 Buford Hwy, NE, Atlanta, GA 30345. Online registration, course maps and event details are available at www.buhihalf.com.
Runners and walkers can choose from a half-marathon course, a 10K, 5K or 2 mile stroll followed by authentic cuisine from Pho Bac (Vietnamese), La Mei Zi (Taiwanese and Sichuan), Xela Pan (Guatemalan), Tempoe Doeloe (Indonesian), Las Delicias De La Abuela (Columbian), Hong Kong Bakery (Oriental Bakery Goods), Penang (Malaysian and Thai), and Northern China Eatery (Northern Chinese).
Charity partners for the half-marathon are: Hope Laugh Play, The Latin American Association, Children Read, Inc., The Elaine Clark Center, I Will Survive, Inc., Rainbow Village, Raksha, Inc., Peachtree Creek Greenway, Inc., Center for Pan Asian Community Services, and Open Hand Atlanta.
The Brookhaven City Council voted Aug. 30 to approve the $35 million Peachtree Creek Greenway master plan.
The Peachtree Creek Greenway plan is a 12-mile multi-use path and linear park that is designed, in the long term, to connect the Atlanta BeltLine to Brookhaven, Chamblee and Doraville.
The North Fork of Peachtree Creek begins outside of I-285 and mostly flows along I-85 until it joins the South Fork of Peachtree Creek near the Lindbergh MARTA station and Path400 in Buckhead.
The initial focus of the project is on three miles within Brookhaven and approximately one mile through Century Center in Chamblee.
