Netherworld
Named one of the scariest haunted houses in the world year after year, Netherworld has moved to its new home in Stone Mountain. This years dates are Oct. 5 through Nov. 4. As usual the fear-fest is divided into zones including “The Awakened,” “Suspect: Unknown” and “Escape Nosferatu.” The new address is 2076 West Park Place Blvd. Find out more at fearworld.com.
Atlanta Botanical Garden
The annual “Scarecrows in the Garden” returns starting Oct. 2-31 with more than 100 kooky and creative characters perched throughout the Midtown site. They’re all the creative handiwork of area schools, businesses, organizations and individuals. On Oct. 25, contestants will take part in the “Great Pumpkin-Carving Contest” from 7 to 8 p.m., while kids are invited to dress up in their best costumes for “Goblins in the Garden” on Oct. 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for storytelling, pony rides and more For more information, visit atlantabg.org.
Fall Festival on Ponce
The annual event returns to Olmsted Linear Park on Oct. 20 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Oct. 21 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a giant artists market, children’s area, food trucks, live music and more. For more information, visit festivalonponce.com.
Oakland Cemetery
On Oct. 13, the annual Run Like Hell 5K will be held, and runners (don’t forget your costumes!) can sign up at itsyourrace.com. The acclaimed Capturing the Spirit of Oakland Halloween Tours from Oct. 18-28 are already sold out, but check in at oaklandcemetery.com to check on returns or late ticket availability.
ELEVATE
The public art festival returns Oct. 18-21 to a new location: Cascade Heights in Southwest Atlanta. Details were still being decided at press time, but expect interactive art installations, music and dance performances, spoken word, panel discussions, and much more. Oakhurst Porchfest
Local musicians will take over the front porches and yards of homes in the Decatur neighborhood on Oct. 13 from noon to 7 p.m. for an afternoon of concerts and community. Visit oakhurstporchfest.org for the schedule.
The Poe Experience
The Wren’s Nest in West End will host this immersive experience based on stories by Edgar Allen Poe including “The Raven,” “The Tell Tale Heart” and “The Fall of the House of Usher.” Tickets and more information can be found at wrensnest.org.
Grant Park Halloween Lantern Parade
The Grant Park Conservancy will host this stroll through the historic park on Oct. 27 starting at 7:30 p.m. lead by the Maynard Jackson Marching Band There will be music, food trucks, and adult beverages. For more information, visit gpconservancy.org.
Little 5 Points Halloween Festival and Parade
The annual tradition will see thousands congregate in L5P on Oct. 20 to enjoy the artists market, food, drinks, live entertainment and one of the biggest Halloween parades in the South. The parade begins at 4 p.m. Costumes are encouraged. For more information, visit l5phalloween.com.
Fox Theatre Ghost Tours
The Fabulous Fox opens its doors for the sixth annual ghost tours for two days only – Oct. 26 and Oct. 30. Guests will walk through the historic theatre to learn about the Fox’s 89 years of ghostly sightings and unexplained events. For the first time, tour attendees will hear stories from Mr. and Mrs. Fox, who will be joined by other characters from the Fox’s past, as they share details of the theatre’s haunted history. Porches & Pies
This Adair Park fall festival is set for Saturday, Oct. 27, will feature bakers competing to take home the prize for best pie in Atlanta. The festival will also feature live music, an artist market and kids activities presented by Atlanta Indie Market, food trucks, Monday Night Brewing beer, and Urban Tree cider. IrishFest Atlanta
The sixth annual IrishFest Atlanta will feature popular traditional Irish band, Téada, The Green Fields of America on their 40th Anniversary Tour, and the return of members of Pride of Moyvane Ceili Band in a lively ceili (dance) Oct. 26-27, 2018 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Atlanta Perimeter Dunwoody, 4386 Chamblee Dunwoody Road. The two-day festival features concerts, dance performances, workshops, a ceili dance, lectures, and family fun activities.
