Tucker’s Celebration of Independence on July 3 saw a crowd of more than 10,000 people enjoying food, drink, music and fireworks.
Main Street and surrounding streets were closed to road traffic, replaced with food trucks, drink tents, animal balloon artists, face painters, carnival games and a music stage manned by DJ Fernando, followed by the Radio 80s band. Fireworks ensued after 9 p.m.
Tucker Mayor Frank Auman said the tradition of holding the Independence Day celebration on July 3 came about organically during the second year of cityhood.
“We were kind of late to the game trying to book a fireworks company, and everyone was booked, but one company said if we did it the day before, it would be half price,” Auman said. “We loved that and the people loved having them so we stuck with it.”
Auman said the celebration is one of his favorites because of the opportunity for people to meet neighbors and make new friends.
“This is how you build community,” he said.
This year’s celebration was a departure from 2023, when a torrential rain blew in during the evening, forcing many to abandon the festivities. However, the skies cleared just in time for the first rocket launch. This year, while hot and steamy, did not interfere with the party.
