Three men have been taken into custody after a Brookhaven home invasion led to a car chase, car crash, and police officer-involved shooting in Chamblee.

On Thursday, Aug. 15, Brookhaven police officers responded to a home invasion on Caldwell Road at 11 p.m. According to the report, gunshots were exchanged when the homeowner asked a neighbor to intervene, having seen through video surveillance that four armed men were inside her home.

A responding officer pursued the suspects into the city of Chamblee, where the car was crashed at the intersection of Chamblee Dunwoody Road and Peachtree Industrial Road.

Officers were confronted by an armed suspect outside of the vehicle. An officer discharged his firearm, striking Albert Eugene Burns, 19, of Snellville. Burns dropped one gun and continued running. When Burns dropped a second gun, the police officer shot Burns again as he was trying to pick up the gun.

No officers were injured. Burns was transported to a local hospital.

Dunwoody Police Department and Chamblee Police Department assisted with setting up a perimeter and K-9 search.

Suspects Davion Harper, 22, and Tyson Kamari Kirksey, 18, both Conyers residents, are being booked into DeKalb County jail. The fourth suspect is still at large.

BPD is investigating the home invasion and aggravated assault.

The GBI will conduct an independent investigation into the officer’s use of force. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling 1-800-597-TIPS(8477).
