In the wake of Hurricanes Helene and Milton, Giving Kitchen (GK), the nonprofit organization that provides financial assistance and a network of community resources to food service workers in times of crisis, is stepping up its efforts to provide critical support to food service workers in disaster-stricken areas.
Since the hurricanes made landfall, Giving Kitchen has received thousands of Asks for Help (AFH) from workers in need, offering assistance through its Stability Network. In response, Giving Kitchen is launching its Emergency Financial Disaster Relief Program to provide immediate, targeted relief.
Through the Stability Network, Giving Kithcen has already helped nearly 2,000 clients since Oct. 1, connecting them to essential local resources. This marks a significant increase in demand, with more food service workers being supported in the last month than in the entire previous quarter.
“At Giving Kitchen, we define our guiding principle of Generosity as ‘compassion and care that goes beyond what’s expected.’ We live our principles, and although we are already serving more clients than ever from the recent hurricane disaster, we wanted to do more. Raising additional funds to support those that serve in a moment of crisis felt urgent, and I am so proud that we could get them expedited financial assistance immediately—above and beyond and in addition to our regular assistance,” said Allison Padilla-Goodman, CEO of Giving Kitchen.
Giving Kitchen’s Emergency Financial Disaster Relief Program aims to provide quick, tangible financial assistance to hundreds of food service workers. Eligible individuals who have experienced lost wages, evacuation expenses, or damage to their homes and belongings can apply for up to $500 in financial support, distributed via Visa gift cards.
The process is simple: food service workers must first complete an Ask for Help form, and those who qualify can expect to receive funds within a week. Applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis until available funds are depleted. Giving Kitchen’s regular Stability Network and Financial Assistance resources are still available for food service workers nationwide during this short-term relief program.
How the Program Works:
- Food service workers are first connected to local resources to ensure immediate safety and stability.
- Workers then complete a shortened application for expedited financial assistance.
- Eligible workers impacted by the hurricanes will receive up to $500 to assist with their immediate needs.
