A MARTA train’s derailment near the King Memorial Station during the Wednesday morning commute created chaos for riders.

According to a MARTA statement, a train traveling westbound derailed near King Memorial Station around 7:30 a.m. Sixteen passengers were on board and were safely moved to another train for transport to Candler Park Station. No one was injured, the statement said.

MARTA’s Rail Operations unit re-railed the train early Wednesday evening and moved it to the Avondale yard, according to a statement from the transit agency.

Single tracking from Mercedes-Benz/State Farm Arena/GWCC Station to Edgewood/Candler Park Station remains until the end of service on Dec. 4. Supplemental bus transportation will be provided between Georgia State and Candler Park until 9 p.m. and MARTAConnect (discounted Uber & Lyft trips) will be available until the end of service tonight.

MARTA answered questions on social media about the cause of service disruption.

Earlier in the day, confused passengers took to social media to air their frustrations.

Woodward Academy students who ride the Blue/Green line from Edgewood/Candler Park and Inman Park were transported by bus when the school discovered the disruption. By 9:10 a.m., all students had safely arrived at school.

Other commuters were posting on social media, like travel agent Samantha Britton whose husband and three-year-old child were stuck in the cold weather on their way to preschool.
