Synchronicity Theatre, a women-led performing arts theater in Atlanta, released the slate of programming that will be featured in the second half of its 2024-2025 season.
“We are thrilled to announce the second half of our 27th season!” said Rachel May, Producing Artistic Director of Synchronicity Theatre. “I am so excited as we launch ACT 2 of our season, with another exciting lineup of productions and events that showcase our commitment to diverse voices and storytelling.”
The upcoming season — the theater’s 27th in its history — kicks off with Petite Rouge: A Cajun Little Red Riding Hood beginning Feb. 4 and running through March 2.
Based on Mike Artell’s award-winning book, the Cajun-inspired take on Little Red Riding Hood tells the tale of a young duck named Petite Rouge, who navigates a perilous Louisiana bayou in an effort to bring a basket of goodies to her ailing grandmother.
Fun for the whole family, Petite Rouge includes a number of specialty days, such as “Pay-What-You-Can” shows on Sundays, along with “PJs & Play” performances every Friday — in which kids can attend in their pajamas and enjoy free cookies throughout the show.
On April 23, the Women in the Arts and Business luncheon will take place at The Foundry at Puritan Mill.
Themed “Thriving Together: Atlanta Women Take the Stage,” the event honors Jane Woodruff Blount of Warner Bros. Discovery and Sue Schroeder of CORE Dance for their respective contributions to the arts.
Between January to May, Synchronicity Theatre will once again host its “Stripped Bare Arts Incubator series,” a returning program that gives the theater’s creators the opportunity to share their works “in an intimate and raw setting,” according to a release.
Featured projects include I Am The Dead Man by Stephen Ruffin (Jan. 15), Intergenerational Caregiving Pretzel by Rachel Mewbron (April 16) and Viscera by Meaghan Novoa (May 13-14).
From June 6 through June 9, the Atlanta theater presents The Dark Lady, a new play by Jessica B. Hill.
Part of Synchronicity Theatre’s “Bold Voices” series, The Dark Lady is a love story about Emilia Bassano, a trailblazing English poet who is speculated to be the inspiration for Shakespeare’s “Dark Lady” sonnets.
Finally, the theater’s season is set to conclude on June 14 with its annual “Playmaking for Girls” event.
Presented in partnership with Georgia State – Perimeter, the public performance event showcases creative works — which were developed through a year-long playwriting program — by female artists from refugee communities and group homes.
