Police in Sandy Springs and Atlanta are investigating a series of hoax threats at local hospitals that brought out a heavy police presence on Friday night.
According to Sandy Springs Police, Northside Hospital received a swatting call Friday night just after 8 p.m. of an active shooter inside the Sandy Springs medical facility. Police later dismissed it as a hoax.
On its social media pages, the Sandy Springs Police reported that a swatting call regarding an “active assailant” was reported around 8:15 p.m. at Northside Hospital.
“SSPD officers quickly arrived on scene, cleared the hospital, and verified that the call was fake. Again, Northside Hospital is ALL CLEAR!,” the post said. “Thank you to the agencies which assisted with handling this incident.”
A short time later, both Emory Hospital and Emory Hospital Midtown were the subject of bomb hoax threats, but they were also dismissed after an Emory and Atlanta Police investigation.

Emory issued a statement after the threats saying its police department and APD gave the “all clear” following the reported bomb threats.
“Emory Healthcare’s top priorities are the safety and well-being of its patients, visitors and staff,” the statement said.
The hoaxes come exactly one week after a series of hoax active shooter calls at the University of Georgia, West Georgia College, and Clark Atlanta University put the campuses in lockdown. The FBI and GBI are still investigating those incidents.
