
The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) 28th annual SCAD Savannah Film Festival will feature awards season contenders such as “Bugonia,” “Sentimental Value,” and more.
The festival will take place Oct. 25 – Nov. 1 in Savannah. According to a press release, the lineup features 167 films, including 56 narrative feature films, 15 documentary features, and 96 short films.
On Oct. 25, the festival will open with “Eternity,” a romantic comedy directed by David Freyne and starring Elizabeth Olsen, Miles Teller, and Callum Turner. The Centerpiece Gala Presentation will screen Oct. 30 with “Song Sung Blue.” which stars Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson as the real-life Neil Diamond tribute duo Lightning & Thunder. The festival will close on Nov. 1 with Rian Johnson’s new film “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.”
Other Gala screenings, which spotlight major awards contenders, includes “Bugonia,” Yorgos Lanthimos’ new film starring Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons; “Sentimental Value,” from “The Worst Person in the World” Joachim Trier; “Is This Thing On?,” the new film from Bradley Cooper; “Hamnet,” from director Chloe Zhao and starring Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley; and “The Testament of Ann Lee,” Mona Fastvold’s historical musical starring Amanda Seyfried.
The festival will also feature several international films, such as Iranian director Jafar Panahi’s Palme d’Or winner “It Was Just an Accident.” There will also be screenings of older films such as Jean-Luc Godard’s 1960 film “Breathless” and Steven Spielberg’s “E.T. the Extra Terrestrial.”
In addition to screenings the festival will have several panels, including the Behind the Lens series and the Below the Line series. Behind the Lens focuses on directors, producers, editors, cinematographers and the like, while Below the Line highlights the work of below-the-line talent such as costume designers and production designers.
The festival will honor many guests with numerous awards this year, including Will Arnett, Hannah Beachler, Craig Brewer, Rose Byrne, Miles Caton, Park Chan-wook, and many others.
