The Alliance is partnering with the group Theatre for Young Audiences, USA (TYA/USA) for a new theatrical program aimed at younger audiences.
The project is the Theatre for Very Young Audiences (TVY) Development Program, which offers mentorship, residency, and workshop support to a new TVY show for kids from newborn age to 5 years old. “Helping Hands,” a work by Jack Romans and Cameryn Richardson, will be the program’s inaugural show, according to a press release.
“Helping Hands” is about two friends who accidentally wake a resting trash spirit. The play teaches kids about recycling and reducing waste.
“As we imagine a sustainable future for Theatre for the Very Young, innovation and imagination are at its core. Romans and Richardson have shaped a story that invites our youngest audiences to see trash as treasure and to find delight in the possibilities of recycled materials,” said Olivia Aston Bosworth, the Dan Reardon Director of Youth and Families at the Alliance Theatre, in a press release.
According to the release, the show’s creative team will be in residence at the Alliance Theatre during the weeks of Dec. 8, 2025 and May 25, 2026 to develop and present the show. The show will premiere at the TYA/USA Festival & Conference and Woodruff Art Center’s Toddler Takeover Festival in May of 2026.
