The DeKalb Perimeter Community Improvement District on Jan. 13 announced a $360,000 investment to enhance real-time response technology as part of its longstanding partnership with the City of Dunwoody.

The $360,000 will fund two drones at $100,000 year and then $80,000 a year to continue to fund nine Automated License Plate Recognition devices – which use cameras and software to automatically capture, read, and store license plate numbers – and five FLOCK cameras, according to police officials.

According to a joint statement by the PCID and the Dunwoody Police Department, the two-year funding, covering 2026 and 2027, “will sustain real-time response technologies already in use across the DeKalb Perimeter CID area while adding new aerial support capabilities to further enhance public safety efforts.”

Focus on safety and cleanliness

Ann Hanlon, executive director of the Perimeter CIDs, told Rough Draft that the funding is a continuation of a 2024 pilot program wherein the DeKalb Perimeter Community Improvement District committed $173,350 for a two-year public safety technology partnership, which included installing a Flock Safety surveillance system in key parts of the Perimeter area.

“We are focused fully on having our employees and tenants feel that the Perimeter is the cleanest and safest market in the metro area,” Hanlon said. “We feel that the investment we made in 2024 was successful, and we want to continue to support the police.”

“Public safety is strongest when government and the private sector work together,” said Dunwoody Police Chief Michael Carlson in the release. “The Perimeter Community Improvement District’s funding of this technology partnership demonstrates a shared commitment to innovation and proactive policing, giving our Real-Time Crime Center another critical tool to prevent crime and respond decisively.”

In Dunwoody, the Perimeter district includes a mix of large-scale employers, Perimeter Mall, and High Street, along with office campuses like Ravinia, Terraces, and Campus 244.
