The Norcross Police Department invites the community to lace up their running shoes and join officers for its first-ever Law Enforcement Torch Run on Saturday, March 28, raising funds and awareness for Special Olympics Georgia.

While the torch run is traditionally reserved for law enforcement officers, this year’s event will be open to the public. Residents can run or walk alongside Norcross police officers while supporting athletes with disabilities.

When registering, participants can choose between the 5K Torch Run or a 1.4-mile community walk. The 5K run will begin at 9 a.m., and the walk will step off at 10 a.m.

The event will take place along the city’s sidewalks, with activities centered around Thrasher Park. There’s also a checkpoint station at One Heart Church, which will have drinks and light snacks for participants along the route. After crossing the finish line, attendees can enjoy food, beverages, and visit community booths.

All proceeds from the event will directly support Special Olympics Georgia, helping provide year-round sports training and athletic competitions for thousands of athletes across the state.

Cvent organizers will offer giveaways, including multiple gift baskets awarded to participating runners and walkers.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run is the largest public awareness and fundraising movement for Special Olympics, with law enforcement agencies across the country carrying the “Flame of Hope” in support of Special Olympics athletes.

The registration fee is $15 for either the run or the walk. Participants who would like an official Law Enforcement Torch Run T-shirt can register for $25. Children under 13 may participate for free, though T-shirts are not included with the free registration.

Because the event will take place on sidewalks rather than roadways, participation is limited, and early registration is encouraged.
