The Atlanta Beltline held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday to celebrate the completion of the Southside Trail, creating nearly 17 miles of continuous trail for the first time in the project’s history.
The milestone marks the longest uninterrupted stretch of completed trail the Atlanta Beltline has delivered to date: 16.7 miles.
The completion physically links the Northwest, Westside, Southside, Eastside, and Northeast corridors, expanding connectivity across 36 neighborhoods and multiple Atlanta Public Schools.
The completion of the 1.9-mile Southside Trail Segments 2 and 3 extends from McDaniel Street at University Avenue near Pittsburgh Yards to Boulevard in southeast Atlanta.
Dubbed “The U” by project designers, The Beltline now stretches from Armour Yards to Blandtown and encompasses Piedmont Park, Old Fourth Ward, Pittsburgh Yards, Lee + White, and Shirley Clarke Franklin Park.
The opening of this stretch of Beltline coincides with Atlanta’s hosting of eight FIFA World Cup 2026 matches and the 20th anniversary of the start of the 22-mile trail project.
