Spruill Studios, which provides workspace for 16 emerging and established artists, held its grand opening on June 13.

The studio, located in the former Chamblee City Hall building, features a dedicated gallery space open to the public that will showcase works created by the facility’s artists, according to Spruill Center for the Arts officials.

This is an exciting time for Downtown Chamblee and the arts community,” said Chamblee Mayor Brian Mock in a statement about the opening. “We’re proud that Spruill Center for the Arts partnered with the City of Chamblee to expand their services in our former City Hall for the creative community to thrive and showcase their talents.”

The artists

Sixteen artists, two of whom are Chamblee residents, were selected through a competitive application process. They include Reinilda Blair, Anna Brady, Yuan Butler, Spencer Clark, Manty Dey, Elisa Dore, Nicol Eltzroth Rosendorf, MaDora Frey, Allison Geckeler, Jermery Hall, Ross Landenberger, Claire Paul, Jay Reddish,
Debanhi Romero, Shanon Schneider, and Kristin Thorsen.

The media in which the artists work is diverse, including acrylic painting, sculpture, pottery, ink painting, digital animation and film, mural painting, and 3D printing.

Husband and wife Anna Brady, an abstract oil painter, and Spencer Clark, who creates hand-dyed textiles, said they are grateful for the space that will allow them to interact with other artists.

“We are so excited to be part of this,” Clark said. “We really appreciate the art community and are grateful to have this space.”

Spruill CEO Alan Mothner said the hard work by his staff and the city to bring Spruill Studios to fruition has been “very gratifying.”

“Just seeing people walk through the studios just reinforces that [feeling],” Mothner said.

Spruill Studios will be accessible to the public via a dedicated gallery space, as well as during select open studio events and tours, according to a release from the organization.
