To your health
Wednesday, July 1 — It’s officially July, and I’ve got a short and sweet roundup of all things wellness today.
🥵 It’s so hot out there, y’all! Atlanta’s officially trapped in a “heat dome,” with temperatures climbing into the upper 90s (and feels like temps of 100° or higher) through the holiday weekend. Stay safe!
💧 Don’t forget to stay hydrated, especially if hitting FIFA Fan Fest today, or running the Northside Hospital Peachtree Road Race on Saturday morning. Do you actually need electrolytes to stay hydrated? The Washington Post and The New York Times weigh in on that.
🍑 Rough Draft will be at the Peachtree Health & Fitness Expo on Friday, July 3. Come say hi to me and our summer intern, Ansley!
➡️ In this week’s newsletter, I’ve got a story about two competitive push teams from The Kyle Pease Foundation lining up at the Peachtree, my top electrolyte picks for summer, and a must-book floating (yes, floating!) sound bath experience at The Spa at the Four Seasons Atlanta.
Be well!

The Kyle Pease Foundation Push Teams Tackle the Heat, Hills, and Humidity at the Peachtree

🎉 On July 4, nearly 60,000 runners, walkers, and wheelchair racers will line up in Buckhead early in the morning for the annual Northside Hospital Peachtree Road Race, the country’s largest 10K.
Push teams from The Kyle Pease Foundation (KPF), a local nonprofit dedicated to providing inclusive sports opportunities for people with disabilities, will be among the athletes taking on the hot, humid, and hilly Atlanta course covering 6.2 miles down Peachtree from Buckhead to 10th Street at Piedmont Park in Midtown.
A balanced summer starts with connection

☀️ Summer offers children and teens a valuable opportunity to slow down, explore new interests, and build confidence outside the pressures of school.
Lighter schedules give kids more space to practice important life skills such as making friends, trying new activities, solving problems independently, and developing resilience.
Support your child’s growth this summer by:
- encouraging face-to-face time with peers
- helping kids try new activities or hobbies
- Allowing age-appropriate independence and problem-solving
- Praising effort and perseverance rather than outcomes

The Short List
💥 Hydrating for summer running (or just existing!) is non-negotiable. I rotate between SaltStick Fast Chews electrolyte tabs, LMNT electrolyte drink mix, and Liquid I.V. electrolyte drink mix. The latter comes in a nostalgia-packed popsicle firecracker flavor fitting for the Fourth of July holiday.
💄 It’s way too hot out there for any kind of serious makeup. And let’s be real, my look is very “minimalist” (e.g., rinse my face, add some tinted sunscreen, and go). But one thing my Gen Z friends and I have in common is our obsession with the Dream Lip Oil from Summer Fridays. Perfect for that trendy glassy pout look, or feeling pulled together (even when you aren’t).

Book It

🔔 I’ll admit, the first time I participated in a sound bath I thought it was a little out there. But anything that forces me to calm the f*ck down for an hour or two is a good thing.
So when The Spa at the Four Seasons Atlanta reached out about their new monthly floating sound bath experience, I was all in (plus, I can never resist “research” for a future story). Guided meditation in a saline pool? Check. Access to spa amenities for two hours after the event? Check. Blissful sleep in one of the plush hotel beds afterward? Well, that one’s not included.
The next session on July 8 session is already sold out, but make plans to join me on August 12. Book the experience here.
