Southern Fried Queer Pride will present “There’s No One Way to Be Non-Binary,” a portrait photography exhibit by Valeska Freire, this week in Atlanta.

Freire is a Venezuelan photographer, visual artist, and filmmaker whose work explores queer identities through portraiture and self-portraiture. The photo series grew out of their own experience as a non-binary person trying to navigate gender without archetypes, roadmaps, or many examples of what that could look like.

The exhibition, which opens on Thursday, July 9, includes portraits of non-binary people living in Atlanta, celebrating the many ways gender can exist beyond the binary.

The exhibit will be on display at The Supermarket until July 14, with a reception celebrating Non-Binary People’s Day on the closing night.

The event begins at 6 p.m. and will include a talk by Freire, music by DJ 4GetMeNot, and drinks and refreshments. Both the reception and exhibition are free, and registration is available via Eventbrite.
