Spruill Gallery is now accepting nationwide submissions through August 28 for its seventh annual AMPLIFY mural competition.
The winning artist will receive a $10,000 prize, and his or her mural will be displayed on the wall of the historic Spruill Smoke House for the coming year.
“Being selected as the AMPLIFY muralist has become a highly competitive process, and we cherish the artists who are a part of this beloved Dunwoody tradition,” said Spruill Gallery Director Shannon Morris in a release from the organization. “We’re looking forward to finding the next artist whose work will become a part of this growing legacy.”
The current mural on-site, “A Charm of Buntings,” was painted by last year’s winner Chloe Alexander, an Atlanta-based printmaker who has exhibited work nationally and internationally – including at the Harvard Museums in Cambridge and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Past winners also include Manty Dey (2024), Charity Hamidullah (2023), Alice Stone-Collins (2022), Alea Hurst (2021), and Christopher Michaels (2020), the release said.
This year’s winning design and mural will be unveiled at a public event on November 21, Spruill officials said.
Submissions in any medium from individual artists or art teams residing in the United States will be considered, but applicants must be 18 or older. All applicants, regardless of whether their work is chosen, will be eligible for inclusion in a city database of artists and art projects to be considered for future public art projects, Spruill officials said in the release.
“In addition to providing opportunities for artists, our yearly AMPLIFY murals allow us to add a vibrant addition to a heavily trafficked site in Perimeter Center,” said Spruill CEO Alan Mothner.
