It appears Dunwoody’s next mayoral election will provide a contest.
Mayor Mike Davis plans to run again in the Nov. 3 election and so does Councilman Denis Shortal, he said.
While Davis said he’s disappointed by the news because he thought the council was a “well-oiled machine,” Shortal said he thinks he can provide better leadership.
“I think we made a lot of progress but we need to have a more positive atmosphere within our city,” Shortal said.
Shortal told Davis of his plans after the June 8 City Council meeting, Davis said. “It was a surprise,” he said. “We’re so successful; I can’t imagine what we would do differently.”
Davis said Dunwoody is the “shining city on the hill” that everybody wants to be like.
Reminded of his Dunwoody Yes! co-chairman days, Shortal said he wants to stay true to his core values.
“I think politics is something that’s not overly complicated,” Shortal said. “You tell the citizens what you’re going to do and then you do it. I will do what I say.”
The next city of Dunwoody municipal election will be held Nov. 3 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. If a runoff election is necessary, it will be held Dec. 1, 2015 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
