Nancy Leathers, the city of Sandy Springs’ director of community development, will retire Nov. 1.

Leathers made the announcement in a May 4 e-mail to Mayor Eva Galambos, City Manager John McDonough and members of Sandy Springs City Council. A city spokeswoman confirmed Leathers’ retirement.

“Each of us reaches a point where it is time to change what we are doing,” Leathers said in the e-mail. “Right now, I am at that point.”

She went on to say she plans to spend time with family and to travel.

“It has been a great pleasure to serve each of you and the citizens of Sandy Springs,” Leathers said.

Leathers has been involved in community development for the past 30 years, according to the city of Sandy Springs’ website.

Before leading development in Sandy Springs, she served as deputy director, chief of operations and eventually director of the Fulton County Department of Environment and Community Development. She retired from Fulton County in 2000.
