The Savannah College of Art and Design will host SCAD Style 2011, the university’s nationally recognized, signature style and design event, April 25-29, at various locations at SCAD Savannah and SCAD Atlanta. This series of events features world-renowned artists, designers and industry professionals and highlights several of the college’s programs of study, including fashion, fibers and interior design. All lectures are free and open to the public.
Throughout SCAD Style, students and the public will have the opportunity to participate in lectures, exhibitions and film screenings from well-known artists, designers and industry professionals.

Monday, April 25:

“The Sartorialist” Scott Schuman
Scott Schuman is the founder and photographer behind “The Sartorialist,” the internationally-renowned blog that features street fashion from around the world. The New York Times called the blog “the bellwether American site that turned photo blogging into an art form.”
Wednesday, April 27:

Waris Ahluwalia
Waris Ahluwalia is the jewelry designer behind the House of Waris, known for its exquisite jewelry handcrafted by artisans in India using traditional artisanal techniques. This past year he was inducted as an official member of the CFDA and placed on Vanity Fair’s Best Dressed List. He was anointed British GQ’s #2 best dressed man internationally and included in Vogue’s 10 Most Impactful People of 2010.
Thursday, April 28:
3 p.m., SCAD Atlanta, 1600 Peachtree St.
“Jacqueline Susann and the Style of the 1960s: The 45th Anniversary of Valley of the Dolls”
On the 45th anniversary of the publication of Jacqueline Susann’s cult classic novel “Valley of the Dolls,” senior editor from Town & Country Whitney Robinson and fashion designer Lisa Perry, a passionate collector of 1960s vintage couture fashion, will discuss the book and its impact. Accompanying the discussion will be a behind-the-scenes documentary on the making of the book and the film.

Screening: “Bill Cunningham New York”
Director Richard Press’ documentary is a heartfelt and honest film about the inimitable New York Times photographer, who has for decades lovingly captured the unexpected trends, events and people of Manhattan for the Styles section of the newspaper. The film shows Cunningham, an octogenarian, riding his Schwinn bicycle to cover benefits, galas and fashion shows around Manhattan, and illustrates how his camera has captured the looks that have defined generations.
