The following incidents and arrests are some but not all of the reports filed with SSPD over the listed period.

The following information was provided by the Sandy Springs Police Department from its records and is presumed to be accurate.

Robbery

7500 block of Roswell Road 30350 – A man said he was walking on Dalrymple Road on Oct. 15 when another subject, whom he knew from high school, came up to him, pulled a gun, and told him to give up his money. The victim refused, so the man grabbed his cellphone and threw it in the bushes and then fled.

Burglary

6900 block of Roswell Road 30328 –A man said he left his apartment on Oct. 14 for about an hour. He left the door unlocked and when he returned, someone had taken a DVD player, X-Box game system, DVDs and video games.

100 block of Silverwood Road 30328 – On Oct. 15, a resident reported that someone stole power tools from a carport area. The tools were in an unlocked storage room.

500 block of Northridge Road 30350 – The victims said that on Oct. 15, when they returned home at 4:30 p.m., they found that their front door had been forced open, most likely kicked in. Missing is a laptop and $80.

7500 block of Roswell Road 30342 – On Oct. 18, a business owner said someone smashed the front glass door and took a cash register that contained $100. A golf putter, found at the scene, was most likely used to break the glass.

4600 block of Roswell Road 30342 – On Oct. 15, a resident said someone entered his apartment through an unlocked window and took a laptop.

5500 block of Roswell Road 30342 – On Oct. 18, a man reported that someone came into his apartment through an unlocked window. He is missing a PlayStation 2 game system, a watch valued at $3,800, and a check book.

6800 block of Peachtree Dunwoody Road 30328 – On Oct. 18, a resident reported that someone came into the apartment sometime between Oct. 17 and 18. A glass door was broken and a plasma TV, laptop, Wii game system, another TV, and PS2 game system are missing.

600 block of Willow Creek Drive 30328 – On Oct. 19, the victim said that she left her apartment on the previous day. When she returned, she found that someone had kicked in her front door. Several items were taken from the apartment.

Theft

6600 block of Peachtree Dunwoody Road 30328 – On Oct. 14, an employee reported that a laptop that was supposed to be shipped to the location was apparently stolen.

145 Northwood Drive — A man said someone stole his 1997 Ford Taurus from this location some time between Oct. 12 and Oct. 14.

300 block of Winding River Drive 30350 On Oct. 14, a woman reported that someone stole a Dish TV satellite receiver from outside her apartment.

5500 block of Peachtree Dunwoody Road 30342 – On Oct. 14, an employee of a doctor’s office reported that a patient, who had been in the office in August, had apparently stolen a prescription pad and unsuccessfully tried to write a fraudulent prescription for pain killers at a grocery store in the Toco Hills Shopping Center in DeKalb County.

A man reported that on Oct. 14, his son skipped school, along with two female students, and hung out at the house. The girls apparently called others to come over and several students were eventually at the home. The owner of the home later reported that several bags of candy as well as $1,000 in cash were missing.

5900 block of Roswell Road 30328 – On Oct. 14, a man said his wallet was stolen from his backpack while he was at the gym. He later received a call from his credit union that the card was being used at several gas stations. He cancelled the card and other credit cards that were in the wallet.

5700 block of The Valley (7100 Roswell Road) 30328 – On Oct. 15, a woman said she was involved in a domestic argument with her boyfriend. During the argument, she locked herself in the bathroom until he left. She believes that he stole her purse and then left.

1000 block of Johnson Ferry Road 30342 – On Oct. 15, a nurse reported that someone stole her wallet from her bag at the nurses’ station at Northside Hospital. NOTE: Thefts can occur anywhere. Other than in the car, the office is the next most likely place that your stuff will get taken if you don’t secure it. Years ago, one of our officers had his car stolen from the parking lot of the precinct so don’t assume it is okay to leave your stuff sitting around.

100 block of Northwood Drive 30342 – On Oct. 17, a woman said she was told by a neighbor that another resident in the complex was a federal agent and could extend her visa if he had her passport. She gave the woman her passport to give to the agent. She did not see the woman or passport after that.

8300 block of Roswell Road — The staff at Pointe Canyon Ridge Apartments reported their golf cart stolen.

Highland Park Trail — A woman said someone stole a scale valued at $500.

New Northside Drive — A woman said that on Oct. 17, someone stole her VW Passat.

700 block of Fair Oaks Manor 30328 – On Oct. 20, a pressure washer was stolen from an equipment shed at a home that was undergoing painting. A leaf blower also was taken.

Fraud

1000 block of Hammond Drive 30328 – On Oct. 14, a man said his wallet was stolen and someone apparently accessed his checking account. They deposited a fraudulent check into the account and then made a withdrawal from the account before the bank found that the check was fraudulent.

6500 block of Roswell Road – A store said a man purchased five lampshades at a cost of $385. He paid with a check that later was found to be fraudulent. The routing numbers didn’t match the account and the man’s name was incorrectly spelled. The employee later got a call from a person wanting to return the lampshades. The caller’s name was different from the original person who wrote the check. The second man said the first man, who wrote the check, wanted to return them, but had been arrested by Fulton Police for an outstanding warrant. The man insisted the check was not fraudulent. He was turned away. The check was taken as evidence.

Brentwood Way — A man said someone used his personal information to open an account in Hawaii and charged $580 to him.

A man reported that he filed his taxes and learned that someone in Suwanee, Ga., used his Social Security number in August and had filed for a $16,000 refund.

Assault

6600 block of Peachtree Dunwoody Road 30328 – On Oct. 18, a woman said she was in the library at the American Intercontinental University, talking with a man known to her as “Germ.” She thought that his music that he was listening to was too loud, so she told him so. He picked her up and placed her in another part of the library. She hit him in the chest. He then grabbed her by the throat and choked her. After he realized that he was causing a scene, he left.

6500 block of Roswell Road — A man said he was assaulted on Oct. 18 by another man who grabbed his cellphone and threw it down and then slapped him in the face. He said the man did this in retaliation because the victim spoke to the man’s girlfriend.

Arrests

A man walked into the RBC Bank on Oct. 14 and wanted to cash a check for $835. The check was from a company in Atlanta. The man had an Alabama ID card and unsigned Social Security card. The bank employees checked with the company and confirmed that the check was fraudulent. The bank employee called the police, who arrived and arrested the suspect. The suspect told the cops that he was approached by two men and woman earlier in the day at a homeless shelter on Peachtree Street in Atlanta. The men told the suspect that they had work for him. The suspect got into the car with the men and woman and rode around for a while. Later, one of the men gave the suspect a check and told him to go into the bank and cash the check. He told the suspect he would give him 10 percent of the cash. He told the suspect to abort the attempt to cash the check if it took over three minutes, meaning the bank was most likely verifying the check. (As you can see, the suspect didn’t listen very well.) The suspect was charged with forgery in the first degree.

On Oct. 15, an officer stopped at the site of a car that was on the side of the road on Glenridge Drive after being flagged down by the driver. The man said he was out of gas and requested a ride. The officer checked the man’s ID and found that he was wanted in Clayton County for the charge of battery/domestic violence. He was arrested.  FYI: When the cops give you a ride, they check your ID and do a pat-down for safety reasons. If you have warrants outstanding on you, they will come up on the GCIC (Georgia Crime Information Computer) check.

5100 block of Roswell Road  — Officers, following up on a crime tip on the Atlanta Crime Stoppers Network, arrested one man for drug possession.

1100 block of Hammond Drive 30328 – On Oct. 16, cops responded to Sanford Brown College and spoke to a security guard who had been approached by a female student who said she was approached by another student who told her that he was going to kill her and her boyfriend. The security officer said this suspect had done this before. The officers located the man on the campus and spoke to him. The man was aggressive and refused to respond to the questions. His ID was checked and it was learned that he was wanted on a warrant from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department. He was charged with disorderly conduct and taken to jail.

Cops arrested a man after he assaulted another man in his car. The two got into an argument during dinner and the argument continued in the car as the car was being driven. They eventually stopped and one man got a hammer out of the truck and according to the victim, hit him on the finger with it. By the time the cops got there, they were on the side of Johnson Ferry Road. Both men were drunk. Both were arrested.

5900 block of Roswell Road 30328 – On Oct. 18 employees observed a man take an 18-volt lithium ion battery and put it in his pants and then attempt to leave. He was stopped and detained. He was later arrested. The man said he was unemployed and needed money for gas and food. The man was also wanted in Gwinnett County for failing to appear in court. He was arrested.

7300 block of Roswell Road 30350 – On Oct. 19, responding to a report of a theft in progress, officers stopped a truck that matched a radio lookout. The suspects were reported to be stealing doors from a Jeep Wrangler. The officers found two sets of Jeep doors in the truck. The officers asked the occupants several questions to which they refused to answer. While in custody, one of the offenders began to text on his phone. The text message read that he (the suspect) was going to jail for “Dustin.” Both men were taken to jail. Each Jeep door was valued at $900.

1100 block of Hammond Drive 30328 – On Oct. 19 a pharmacist reported that she received a phone call from a nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital, authorizing a prescription for Xanax for a woman. The pharmacist was familiar with the woman’s name because that person had previously tried to gain a fraudulent prescription. St. Joseph’s Hospital confirmed that the attempt was fraudulent. When the woman arrived to pick up the prescription, she was arrested.

1100 block of Hammond Drive 30328 – On Oct. 19, a man was arrested after he went into a grocery store and requested a pack of cigarettes. He got them and then went to the beer aisle and got a six-pack of beer. While doing that, he put the cigarettes in his pocket and then paid for the beer. He was detained briefly and charged with stealing the cigarettes. He was issued a citation to appear in court.

Other Stuff

A man reported that while at a restaurant, he was standing in line to the bathroom when another man walked past him and grabbed his genitals. The other man denied it. A witness said he did not see it and the hallway video does not show any grabbing of the genitals. The report was deemed to be unfounded.
