Someone hit the locker room at a gym located in the 6300 block of Roswell Road  and at third gym in the 1100 block of Mt. Vernon Highway, at approximately the same time, 4 p.m. to about 7 p.m.

Note: Gym lockers are an absolute favorite for thieves. They come in with a bolt cutter hidden in a gym bag and when no one is around, they cut the lock, grab the stuff, and they’re gone in seconds. Do not take your wallet, phone, and especially cash, and leave them in the locker. That means the only thing they’ll get is your clothes. That way, you still have your workout clothes to ride home in. I would take your keys with you. You can pocket them or pin them to your workout clothes. If your keys are heavy and bulky, take the short version with you—maybe a second set that has only one key. Don’t leave valuables in the locker.

The checks came with instructions to deposit the checks, keep some, and then send a check on to another address via Western Union. After the victim sent the check, he found that the two checks he deposited were fraudulent.

Note: This is a popular scam offering something for nothing. Don’t fall for this stuff.

5600 block of Peachtree Dunwoody Road 30342 – On Nov.  2, a woman reported that someone stole her purse from an office drawer sometime after 10 a.m. She later found that her credit card had been used six times at a gas station, twice at Starbucks, and once at a Red Box video station. Assault

300 block of Hammond Drive 30328 – On Nov.  8, a woman reported that she and her boyfriend were riding in his Cadillac Escalade on Abernathy Road near Glenridge. The two were arguing when the man then hit her in the head and face with his fists. He then grabbed her by the throat and struck her in the head with a small flashlight. She exited the car and fled. The officer could see that she had visible injuries on her face. After she was treated, she met with detectives and provided statements and photos of her injuries. Later that evening, warrants were issued for the boyfriend.

Arrests

5200 block of Mt. Vernon Highway – Officers responding to a complaint of solicitation came across two women who matched the description given by the caller. The officer asked one if they were selling magazines. The woman replied, “Do I look like I’m selling magazines?” She was cuffed and placed in the car. The second woman was described as “very cooperative” and produced a work ID for “Urban 1 Incorporated,” of St. Louis. The second woman was cited for soliciting without proper permits and allowed to leave. The first woman was then willing to give her information and upon doing so, it was learned that she was wanted in Arkansas for criminal trespass. She had also been cited for solicitation in Cobb County earlier in the day. The report said the woman now became loud and argumentative and became even more so when informed she was going to jail. The report said she cursed at the officer all the way to the intake center.

500 block of Granite Ridge Place — Cops were called on a report of a fight. They spoke to two women who later told them they got into an argument after one of the women told the other that she was too loud while she was trying to sleep. This led to fisticuffs. The other woman said the first hated her because she’s beautiful. Each was cited and released.

7800 block of Roswell Road — Officers were called to a fight. They spoke with a man and witnesses who said a woman jumped the guy and hit him with her car keys in the face several times. The man, who had abrasions on his face, concurred. The woman, who was drunk and irate, also threw his cellphone to the ground and stomped on it. The suspect said she drove to Tijuana Joe’s to have a margarita with the man. The argument apparently started because the victim bought adult-entertainment clothing for the woman earlier in the day. The woman was arrested.

Hammond Drive — An officer stopped a car for a traffic violation. The officer initiated a field sobriety test to the driver and told the passenger to remain in the car for safety reasons. A back-up officer arrived and found that the passenger had exited the car. He requested the passenger re-enter the car as told. He refused. According to the report, he was told six or seven times and each time refused. He was arrested.

1200 block of Morgan’s Landing Drive — Two officers responded to a suspicious person call on Nov.  2 at about 3:30 a.m. They found a man, who matched the description, hiding between two cars. They detained the man and later found that he had broken into some cars in the area. He had stolen property on him including a Glock handgun. He was arrested and charged with several felonies. He was taken to the hospital (because he said he wanted to kill himself) and then logged into the jail. The report said the man banged his head on the Plexiglas screen separator on the way to jail —something, by the way, that arrested folks do all the time.

5400 block of Glenridge Drive 30342 Short version: A man, his girlfriend, and his mother were at the gynecology office on Nov.  2. His mother wanted to use his cellphone and he said no. His girlfriend slapped him on the top of his head and he then pulled her hair. It was playful at first but soon escalated to a fight. Each was cited for fighting and released on a copy of charges.

Question: Why were they released on a copy of charges? What is a copy of charges?  Answer: The officer has discretion as to the circumstances of the call. In this case, both parties were calm and probably embarrassed that it escalated to that point but they were not irrational. A “copy” of charges is a citation to appear at a preliminary hearing on a date set a few weeks out. Sometimes we give those to shoplifting suspects who have a permanent residence and are not a risk to flee because of the charge.

4000 block of The Valley 30328 – On Nov.  2, narcotics officers concluded a drug investigation and arrested two people who are charged with selling methamphetamine.

5600 block of Roswell Road 30342 – On Nov.  5, cops arrested one man around 1 a.m. after receiving a call of a drunken person. The man smelled of booze and vomit. He was so drunk that they called an ambulance to check on him. He became violent, spitting and thrashing around as the EMS crew tried to get him on a stretcher. During all this, the officers checked his name and birth date and found that he was wanted by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement on an administrative warrant for removal from the U.S. After being checked out at the hospital, he was taken to jail with a hold on him for ICE.

6100 block of Roswell Road 30328 – On Nov.  5, officers, responding to an alarm at the Smoke-911 store, found a maroon Nissan Maxima and occupant at the location. After checking, the officers determined the man had attempted to burglarize the store. The reason he was still in the parking lot was simple: His car wouldn’t start. The suspect had a pistol and knife on him. The knife had scratches that matched the pry marks on the door to the business. The man was checked out and found to be a convicted felon and as such, was charged with illegal possession of a firearm (by felon) as well as the burglary attempt and possession of tools to commit a burglary.

Trowbridge Road 30350 – On Nov.  5, responding to a noise complaint for loud music, officers cited a man for violating the noise ordinance. They had been there before and gave a warning.

Granite Ridge Place 30350 – Officers responded to a residence on Nov.  5 and spoke with a woman who said she and the offender had been dating but broke up. She went to his residence to return some items to him. He became angry and reached into the car and scratched her. The offender was checked and found to be wanted by SSPD for failure to appear in court. He was arrested.

7800 block of Roswell Road — A caller gave a description of a man the caller said was selling marijuana outside a convenience store. Officers approached him and spoke with him. They said they were responding to a drug complaint and that he matched the description given. They asked him if he had any drugs on him. He told them he had four bags of pot in his pocket. He was arrested.

300 block of Drummen Court 30328 – On Nov.  5, a man reported that he was cooking up some ribs in the kitchen when the offender, girlfriend or whatever—I’m not sure of the relationship —  came in and slammed the dishwasher shut. He told her to stop. She grabbed a pot of stew and threw it against the wall. She said “Don’t f—with me!” and then threw a cup into the sink, breaking the cup. He went outside. She followed as he called the cops. She was later arrested.

4600 block of Roswell Road 30342 – On Nov.  5, an officer located two men smoking pot behind a building. One of the men was wanted in DeKalb County for failure to appear on charges of making threats. He was arrested.

6200 block of Peachtree Dunwoody Road 30328 – On Nov.  6, a hotel representative called the police to have a disorderly employee removed from the hotel. Apparently he was trying to microwave eggs near the breakfast area. The employee did not speak English, so a translator relayed the message to him. He apparently did not take it well, as he yelled to them, “I rebuke you! You are the devil! I will knock your head off!” A psychiatrist, who was in the breakfast area, heard the commotion and later said he believed the man might be a schizophrenic. The suspect gave the officer false information as to his name and date of birth. He was later arrested for that offense and probably terminated as well.

1000 block of Brentwood Way 30350 – On Nov.  6, a woman called the police about a man beating on her door. They arrived and found a man, who matched the description, hurriedly walking away from the door. The man turned out to be the ex-boyfriend of four months who had come to get his stuff after the romance had failed. She said he was trying to kick in the door so she locked herself in the bathroom and called 911. The man was arrested for disorderly conduct and taken to jail.

8800 block of Dunwoody Place 30350 – On Nov.  8, two men were arrested after a contractor arrived on the scene of work that he was doing and found two men loading steel beams, used for apartment deck support, into a truck. The two men told him they were told that the beams were scrap metal and okay to take. They were arrested. The value of the beams was in excess of $500.

6200 block of Peachtree Dunwoody Road 30328 – On Nov.  8, police were called to a motel in regards to a fraud. The employee said a resident paid rent with three checks that were later returned as fraudulent. While the officer was talking to the complainant, the suspect stepped off the elevator and was detained. Turns out when the hotel requested alternate payment methods, the checks came back on a closed account. The man then used a credit card and authorization number that did not match. The checks were run through the bank and the bank confirmed that the accounts did not exist. This meant the man was writing the checks knowing they were fraudulent. He was arrested. He then told the officers he was having chest pains—a common side effect of being arrested. The man was later charged with forgery.

300 block of Hammond Drive 30328 – On Nov.  8, cops were called to a complaint of a fight and spoke with a man, a woman and a witness. The woman’s eye was swollen shut. The witness saw the man poke her in the eye several times. The victim said the man did this because the suspect was angry that the woman was going to have sex with someone other than him. She pointed out that they work together but have no other relationship. The man was arrested and placed in the back of the police car—and promptly had chest pains and what appeared to be a panic attack. EMS personnel were called and the man was taken to Grady Hospital. He was issued a court date to appear on the charge of simple battery.

Other Stuff

A man reported that he was given a shot at a men’s clinic for erectile dysfunction. He said the shot did not work and did not want to pay for the office visit. He claims two men pushed him against a wall. The office representative said no pushing took place.
